Voice basics
- Do I have to tap the orb to talk?
- No — the orb is always listening when the app is open. Just speak. Tapping the orb mutes it (the orb dims); tap again to unmute. Useful if you need a moment of quiet.
- How do I save where I keep something?
- Speak it: “my hammer is in the downstairs cabinet”, “my passport lives in the safe”, “the keys are on the hook by the door”. Anything that names a thing and a place works.
- How do I find something later?
- Ask: “where is my hammer?”, “where are my keys?”. The app replies out loud with the place you told it.
- Can I add an item by typing instead?
- Yes. Open the items drawer (drag up from the bottom) and tap the blue + button. You can type a name and a location with no voice involved.
When the app gets it wrong
- It heard the wrong word — “hamper” instead of “hammer”.
- Speech recognition isn't perfect. Open the items drawer, tap the row that's wrong, and fix the name. Saving updates the record. The same flow handles wrong locations.
- I have two rows for the same place — “law office” and “lower office”.
- Open the drawer, switch to Place sort, and tap the location heading you want to rename. The new name applies to every item under that heading at once.
- How do I delete an item?
- Open the drawer, tap the item, then Delete in the sheet. Or tap the small × on the right side of a row to mark it for deletion, then confirm at the bottom — useful for clearing several at once.
- The app asked “which one?” — what does that mean?
- If you have several items with the same name (two passports, his and her keys), the app asks a follow-up to figure out which one you mean. Just answer in plain language and it'll continue.
Households
- What's a household?
- A shared set of items between people who live together. When you join a household, you both see the same list — anyone can save or ask about anything. Useful for partners, families, roommates.
- How do I invite someone?
- Open the sidebar (top-right menu) → Household → invite by email or share a link. They install the app, accept the invite, and your items are merged.
- Can I leave a household later?
- Yes — from the same Household screen. Leaving moves you back to a personal account; the household's items stay with whoever remains.
Free tier and WhereIsX Pro
- I'm only seeing 15 items — where are the rest?
- Free accounts show your most recent 15 items in the drawer; older ones are still saved on your account, just hidden until you upgrade. The orb's voice answers still work over your full list — only the drawer view is capped.
- When is Pro available?
- We're finalizing pricing and the upgrade flow. Free use continues during the beta. We'll let you know in-app before anything changes.
Troubleshooting
- The orb isn't hearing me.
- Check that the orb isn't muted (tap once to toggle). Then check microphone permissions: on iOS, Settings → WhereIsX → Microphone should be on, along with Speech Recognition. If both look right, try closing and re-opening the app.
- Voice or find isn't working — “something went wrong”.
- Most often a network blip — speech runs through our cloud service. Check your connection and try again. If it persists, email support@whereisx.app with the time it happened so we can look at the logs.
- How do I retake the onboarding tour?
- Open the sidebar → Take the Tour. The drawer will close and the tour walks you through everything from the orb intro onward.
- How do I delete my account?
- In the app: sidebar → Settings → Delete account. Or visit our account deletion page for the web flow.
